Yesterday, I saw another GoFundMe. A local family raising money so that their Dad can receive cancer treatment overseas – a treatment that is not currently available in the UK on the NHS. We’ve all seen them – our hearts always go out to the family who are fighting to keep their loved one alive. You’re only human if you also think, “what would we do if that were us?”

Sometimes its parents, sometimes its children. I can’t imagine having to go through that trauma, but also potentially be blocked from treatment due to finances – often needing an amount of money that most families can’t pay.
One of the (many) gender finance gaps is life insurance and so over the past year at Financielle we’ve been exploring why this is; why women and families aren’t being protected properly.
Down the insurance rabbit hole we went, recognising the various ways the insurance industry is letting customers down, but also spotting the many opportunities we have to make sure we get the right cover we need.
One of those is this immense add on to life insurance, critical illness or even income protection through certain advisors and that is called Global Treatment. Basically, if you, your partner or one of your children were to become seriously ill, you’d have the option to be treated at the best hospitals in the world, by the leading medical experts for their condition.
This can be added to your policy for only £3. I was gobsmacked at the price. I honestly thought that kind of cover would be reserved for those with bigger budgets. £3 a month to cover that kind of eventuality is a no brainer.
So when I saw the GoFundMe in the local news yesterday – my heart sank. This little add on would have immediately helped this family, but so few people know about it that it’s no wonder families are forced to raise funds.
I’m thinking of that family and the many more impacted by life threatening conditions. Also, I’m hoping that their story and my increasing awareness of what Global Treatment is may potentially help another family in the future.
Take this as your little nudge to review policies and spot any gaps, such as Global Treatment.
As ever you can have a complete protection review from our friends at LifeSearch – who are partnering with us to make sure that people are protected properly.
